WAEC postpones examinations indefinitely because of COVID-19

WAEC today, revealed that it will be postponing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for this year indefinitely.

Mr. Patrick Ehidiamen Areghanc who is the Head of National Office WAEC confirmed in a statement on Friday.

He said they reached an agreement to push forward the exam because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The exam was meant to hold on April 6, 2020.

This is happening because of the recent actions the federal government has taken to curb the spread of the deadly virus which is to shut down large gatherings in schools, mosques, and churches around the country. If WAEC did not take this decision, it could spell doom for the country because we really don’t know who is infected with this deadly virus.

“This decision is a demonstration of the organization’s concern and support for the various protocols being put in place by the Federal and State Governments of Nigeria and the governments of the other neighboring countries to verify the spread of the disease.”

Areghan further stated that the timetable for the examination had been suspended and would be reviewed once the health situation improves.
