Some armed bandits operating in Zamfara state have killed 17 people in attacks in three Zamfara villages.

Daily Trust reports that the bandits attacked Birnin Magaji local government area of Zamfara state on Saturday, May 18, and killed the people.

Residents of the community said the armed men, riding motorbikes on Saturday, invaded Gidan Kaso and killed at least seven people there.

It was also gathered that gunmen also refused to allow funeral prayers for the victims.

“They refused to allow other residents to scoop the remains of the victims for burials until when security operatives and other local vigilantes mobilized and stormed the community,” one of the residents said.

Also, some armed bandits on Sunday, May 19, attacked Dan Dambo community killing four people.

The bandits also carted away domestic animals belonging to residents of the community.

Residents said: “Seven people from neighboring Kokeya village who arrived at Dan Dambo community to offer help were also shot dead by the armed men.”

“They were killed trying to offer help to those under attack at Dan Dambo community. Residents of Gidan Kaso had earlier fled the community but recently returned,” a resident added.

The group’s resolution was passed at its emergency meeting in Nigeria to mark the United Nations International Day of Living in Peace globally celebrated on May 16.

WAANSA lamented that Nigerian borders have turned to easy routes for illegal immigrants who milk the nation’s economy and are threats to the country’s national security.
