Tuesday’s Champions League clash between Manchester United and Juventus wasn’t just a special night for Cristiano Ronaldo – it was also a special night for Paul Pogba.
The French midfielder spent four happy seasons with the Italian giants between 2012-2016 before returning to Old Trafford.
Pogba would have been desperate to produce a Match on the Match performance against his former employers; however, he was unable to prevent United from being outclassed by the Serie A outfit in their own backyard.
Juve dominated the match and the 1-0 scoreline, if anything, flattered Jose Mourinho’s side.
They were beaten by a far superior team and the 90 minutes highlighted the huge gulf in class that currently exists between the Red Devils and Europe’s elite.
Many of United’s players struggled – particularly Romelu Lukaku upfront – but Pogba did okay in midfield.
The Manchester Evening News handed the 25-year-old a 6/10 rating, adding: “Tried to make things happen but to no avail. Was a particularly imposing shield for Smalling and Lindelof as Juve hard at them.”
However, Pogba has come in for heavy criticism from sections of United supporters on social media after a photo emerged of him shortly after the defeat.
The photo shows United’s No. 6 sporting a big smile on his face while posing for a snap alongside his former teammate Juan Cuadrado.
