Everton is preparing a bid of £30m for Marcos Rojo

Everton is preparing a bid of £30m for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo as Toffees boss Marco Silva looks to strengthen his squad following a disappointing pre-season campaign.

Everton has won just one of their six friendlies so far and Silva is keen to bring in more faces after paying his former employers Watford £40m for the services of Richardson last week.

Silva has identified the defence as an area that needs immediate repair as the Merseyside club conceded 58 goals in the Premier League last season – only five teams conceded more – and they are keen to make a move for Rojo, according to The Mirror.

Manchester United are prepared to let Rojo leave the club as long as Everton match their £30m valuation of the central defender, who still hasn’t joined the Red Devils on their pre-season tour of the USA despite already enjoying the three-week break required following his involvement in the World Cup.

Wolves have also shown an interest in signing the 28-year-old, who made just 12 appearances in all competitions for United during the 2017/18 campaign after missing the start of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Everton appears to be the more likely destination for Rojo and he isn’t the only defender to be linked with a move to Goodison Park this week.
