Today in World History (March, 30th)

On March 30th, 1981, exactly 37 years ago today, the then United States President, Ronald Reagan was shot in an assassination attempt outside a Washington, D.C hotel by a young man described by the American press as a ‘deranged drifter.’

Reagan’s assailant, 25-year-old John Hinckley Jr, had become obsessed with a young and very beautiful lead actress, Jodie Foster, and the attempted assassination of the President was meant to impress her.

President Reagan, however, recovered from a chest injury he sustained in the assassination attempt.

As for the deranged drifter, Hinckley Jr, he was whisked away to a mental institution where he was placed on perpetual confinement.
