Mysterious Killer in Zamfara Finally Identified


Finally, the mysterious illness that killed eight persons in Dungurawa village of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area in Zamfara State has been identified as Cerebro Spinal Meningitis.

Making the disclosure to the press and the general public in Kano on Wednesday, March 28, the Kano State Commissioner of Health, Malam Kabiru Getso, said that a Rapid Response Team was dispatched to the affected area as soon as the news of the disease got to the ministry.

According to Malam Gesto, the first case was reported on March 15, but those who presented with the symptoms all died before they got to a health facility. The victims were vomiting, had convulsion and high fever prior to the diagnosis that confirmed Celebro Spinal Meningitis type A.

The Commissioner further disclosed that an investigation has already been launched to identify unreported cases while special units are being deployed to cater for people who manifest symptoms of Celebro Spinal Meningitis.
