The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has vowed to campaign against any elected official who refuse to support the passage of the amendment bill on local government autonomy before the state Houses of Assembly.

The National Trustee of NULGE, Comrade Fatai Ibrahim, made the disclosure while interacting with newsmen during a meeting with the Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Umuahia.

According to Comrade Ibrahim, the NULGE national body is agitating for complete autonomy for local governments to avoid the issue of lack of payment of workers in local governments as well as ensuring infrastructural development in rural areas.

The comrade pointed out that only 12 states have passed the bill into law out of 24 states required.

He commended the efforts of the Abia State House of Assembly who according to him was going a good job by presenting the bill for a public hearing.
