The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Malam Ibrahim Idris, has announced the postponement of withdrawal of police officers attached to political and public office holders, VIPs, private and public companies as was earlier directed.
The IGP made the pronouncement during a meeting with commanders of police counter terrorism unit and special detection unit in Abuja on Thursday.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ACP Jimoh Moshood, the withdrawal would now take effect next month.
He explained that the postponement is to enable the force carry out a thorough assessment of the current deployment for appropriate withdrawal.
Commissioners of Police and the supervising Assistant Inspector Generals in the states and zonal commands across the country, were therefore directed to halt the withdrawal until proper assessments are carried out.
