The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Malam Yakubu Dogara, has urged Nigerian judiciary to adhere strictly with the principles of separation of powers as enshrined in the 1999 constitution.
Malam Dogara, who made the call during a plenary of the House, observed that some scrupulous persons were using judges to gag the National Assembly, a situation he maintained, portends danger for Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaker Dogara, contrary to claims now from some quarters, said that Nigeria was not a banana republic and warned that if the Judiciary continued to cross the line, the National Assembly would be left with no option but to part ways with them.
