Nigerian Student Drowns in Cyprus

Hassan Babatunde, a 24 year old Nigerian student from the international university in Cyprus reportedly drowned at the Alagidi-2 region beach in Girne on Wednesday March 14th.

According to report, Hassan was a student at the Near East University and had just been transferred to the Cyprus International University. Cyprus has not been so good for some Nigerians since there has also been reported incidents like that of a Nigerian student, Gabriel Soriwei, who was killed in the North Cyprus city of Nicosia who was knocked down by a female driver on July 13, 2013. As a result of the impact of the accident, he fell into a coma and eventually died on September 7, 2013.

Also a popular Nigerian comedian based in Cyprus, Udumioh Jerry, allegedly stabbed one Ebinabo Mendeinyo to death. The police force in North Cyprus debunked a statement that was given to them that the deceased jumped from the 6th floor of his apartment building out of fear when some unidentified boys, in company of MC Jerry, came to confront him.

The police later said they found stab wounds on Mendeinyo’s body and MC Jerry, was the first person the police arrested in connection with the murder. The suspect was apprehended and charged with murder, trespassing, kidnapping and assault.
