Maryam Sanda, who allegedly killed her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, on November 19, 2017 has been granted bail by Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court, Jabi, Abuja.
The bail grant followed a new motion filed before the court by Sanda’s counsel, Mr. Joseph Daudu, SAN.
In granting the bail, Justice Halilu ordered Sanda to produce two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must have landed property in the FCT.
He also demanded that the father of the defendant must sign an undertaking with the court to produce her on demand at every court sitting and thereafter adjourned the case until March 19 for hearing.
The defense council, Mr Daudu, had in the motion asked the court to consider the present health challenge of the defendant appealing to to the court to grant her bail on the ground that her detention had impacted negatively on her health.
He had argued that the Suleja prison, where the defendant was kept, had inadequate medical facilities to take care of her health challenge coupled with the fact that she is a nursing mother and also pregnant.
The alleged husband killer was arraigned in November 2017 for alleged culpable homicide and conspiracy, alongside her mother, Mrs. Maimuna Aliyu; her brother, Aliyu Sanda, and their housemaid, Sadiya Aminu who were all granted bail in December last year.
