President Muhammadu Buhari has called on his party, the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to prepare itself for congresses at words, local governments, states and the federal now that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the timetable for 2019 general election.
The President stressed the need for the party’s officials and members to strictly follow the party’s constitution in all directions and decisions for them to succeed.
He made the call at the APC national caucus meeting held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday night.
At the meeting attended by state Governors, National Assembly members, National Working Committee members of APC, and other party chieftains, the President cautioned the party members to ensure internal democracy and avoid shortcuts which he claimed characterized the opposition party which led to their being divided.
President Buhari also claimed that the APC has a history of conducting free and fair primaries whenever free consensus of any candidacy was not reached and that regardless of the outcome of the primaries, it was imperative that they all work together to ensure the victory of their party.
He therefore reminded the APC members that it was easy to forget that they succeeded in government with a record of unprecedented debt and systematic mismanagement stressing that APC will not shy away from projecting its achievements from 2015 till date.
