Suspected Child Trafficking Camp Discovered at Ejigbo Lagos

The police in Lagos State has uncovered an apartment in Ejibo area of the state said to be used as a transit camp for child trafficking.

According to the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal, who led a team of policemen and journalists to the area, said that six children were found in a room apartment which was not a daycare center or orphanage.

The children who were between the ages of 3 and 10 were discovered following complaints from residents of the area who alleged that the custodian of the children whose name was given as Comfort Awanaesan, was not the biological mother of the children.

Commissioner Edgal told newsmen that the authorities were concerned about the welfare of the children and that the force has already commenced investigation to ascertain how the children got into the custody of the suspect.

He also said that the police would unravel what would have happened to the children hoping that they would not have ended up being abused or exploited as domestic helps.

As at the time of filing the report, the children, one of whom was said to have a wound and another who was sick without receiving proper medical treatment from the suspect, have been evacuated to a rehabilitation center pending the end of investigations.
