Today in World History (January, 12th)

On January 12, 1986, exactly 31 years ago today, the Columbia space shuttle was launched.

Powered by the first black American shuttle pilot, Charles Frank Bolden Jr. , the ship carried the first Hispanic American to space, Franklin Chang Diaz.

Born on August 19, 1946, Bolden, a former Administrator of NASA, retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Major General

He has also put in a number of years as a renowned astronaut with NASA.
