LASTMA Arrests 5 of its Staff Members for Bribery

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has over the weekend arrested five of its staff members for taking bribe from motorists following a tip-off from the general public.

According to reports, the arrested LASTMA officials were said to have over a period of time engaged in harassing and extorting money from commercial motorcycle riders popularly called Okada and motorists especially commercial bus drivers.

In a reaction to the development, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olawale Musa, expressed happiness for the development saying that the agency would stop at nothing in rooting out the few bad elements that have been rubbing the name of his agency in the mud.

He disclosed that so far, twenty LASTMA officials have been arrested for similar act and are currently facing disciplinary action.

LASTMA has been very notorious in Lagos state for high handedness and abuse of authority in their dealings motorists in Lagos State. Its officials are largely seen as corrupt, uncivilized and very vulgar in their dealings with the general public.

With the latest development in which erring officials are being rooted out and punished, Lagos residents and road users especially Okada riders will surely enjoy a much needed lease of life.
