Today in World History (December, 11th)

King Edward VIII and his wife Wallis Simpson

On December 11, 1936, exactly 81 years ago today, King Edward VIII announced the abdication of his throne.

He said that he could not go on without his once divorced, now married-soon-to-be-divorced again lover, Wallis Warfield Simpson.

Edward became the only English King to ever voluntarily quit the throne. Sure he did.

And he lived happily ever after with the love of his life.
