A mild drama played out yesterday, November 28, at the Imo State House of Assembly complex when the members of the house failed to show up for the presentation of 2018 appropriation bill by Governor Rochas Okorocha.
According to reports, the state’s House of Assembly members boycotted the presentation due to what was described as the ‘lack of due process’ on the part of the state executive.
It was gathered that as early as 10 am yesterday all had gathered – the press, state executive council members, – for the presentation by the Governor only to wait endlessly for the state Assembly members to show up but to no avail.
Although no official statement has been put forward by the House of Assembly members or its principal officials, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, said the development was worrisome and portends great danger to democracy.
He prayed the Assembly members to live up to their responsibilities and not jeopardize the democratic process the country has been enjoying for some time now.
