Zimbabwe Declares February 21st as Mugabe Youth Day


Following the swearing in of Emmerson Mnangagwa as the new President, Zimbabwe has declared February 21 which is former President Robert Mugabe’s birthday, as public holiday.

According to Zimbabwean authorities, the day to be known as Mugabe Youth Day, is to honor the nations former leader for his invaluable contribution to the growth and development of the country.

Recall that Mr Mugabe was at the forefront in the fight for the independence of Zimbabwe from Britain which was attained in 1980.

The move to mark Mugabe’s birthday as a national day of celebration was championed by the ruling African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU–PF).
