The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Ibrahim Magu, has insisted that the sacked Director General of the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mr Ayo Oke and the former Director General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Mr Ita Ekpeyong must be arrested to answer to charges of corruption proffered against them.
Recall that the DSS had on Tuesday blocked the arrest of both the sack DG of NIA and former DG of DSS by men from the EFCC.
The EFCC reportedly wants to affect the arrest of Mr Ayo Oke who was sacked by President Buhari following the discovery of over $43 million hidden away in his Lagos apartment, to give account of how or where he got such amount of money.
As for the former DG of DSS, he is being wanted in connection with the alleged arms deal scan involving the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Sambo Dasuki.
The two DGs have allegedly refused to honor the invitation of the EFCC prompting the commission’s attempt to effect their arrest on Tuesday but for the interference of DSS and NIA officials against the moves to seize their former bosses.
Incidentally, both Mr Oke and Mr Ekpeyong live on the same Mamman Nasir Street in Asokoro area of Abuja the federal capital territory.
Speaking to newsmen against the backdrop of the failure to arrest the former DGs, the EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu said –
“We are not discouraged at all. The law must take its course; nobody is above the law.
There must be reasons, strong reasons, before we go for arrest
… I’m not discouraged but rather energized to do more. I am telling you, nobody is above the law.”
