On November 22, 1963, exactly 54 years ago today, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, while riding in an open-top convertible automobile.
Kennedy’s wife, First Lady Jacqueline, who rarely accompanied her husband on official outings, was in the vehicle with her husband when he was shot.
The President and the First Lady were waving at a large crowd who had lined the Texas street to cheer the First Couple when a young man later identified as Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired three shots from the sixth floor of an apartment building.
President Kennedy was fatally wounded while Governor Connally who rode with the couple was seriously injured.
Kennedy aged 46, was pronounced dead 30 minutes later at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital were he was rushed to following the attack.
