Today in World History (November, 17th)

On November 17, 1558, exactly 459 years ago today, 25-year-old Queen Elizabeth I ascended to the throne of England following the death of her half-sister Queen Mary I.

Elizabeth, an early feminist, refused to dilute her authority by getting married and became famous as the Virgin Queen.

She ruled for 44 years and those years saw England grow into a very wealthy world power.
