Ahead of the November 18 Anambra Governorship election, about 26,000 police officers, 3 helicopters and a number of gunboats have been deployed to provide security cover in the state.
The disclosure was made in a public statement to newsmen yesterday, Novermber 14, in Awka, the Anambra State capital, by a media aid to the Inspector General of Police.
According to the statement, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, gave the figure at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka.
It indicated that 21,000 police officers were authorized to join another 5,000 personnel already stationed in the state to ensure adequate security before, during and after the election.
