Nigerian Soldier Kills Captain, Injures 4, then Shoots Self in Chibok

Tragedy struck yesterday, Sunday, Novermber 13, at Chibok local government area of Borno Statea when a staff sergeant identified as Silas Ninyo reportedly shot and killed a superior officer, Captain K. Mani, injured four others before taking his own life.

According to reports, the Captain was killed when he tried to disarm the sergeant who was said to be drunk.

Captain Mani, who was providing security for worshipers during Sunday service, was said to have received a distress call that Ninyo was beating civilians for unknown reasons so the Captain led his team to the scene to resolve the situation.

Reacting to the ugly incident, the military spokesman, Sani Usman, said the deaths were a great loss to the military informing that a committee of inquiry had been set up to carry investigate the shooting incident.

He said,

“The board of inquiry is expected investigate the incident and promptly turn in its report and findings in one week.

At about 12:50pm today, the unit received a report that a staff was seen to be drunk and misbehaving to civilians.

An officer was dispatched to the scene with a view to bringing him back to base. The officer did his best but the Senior Non-Commission Officer (SNCO) refused several entreaties to calm him and be disarmed by the superior officer.

“Unfortunately, the staff sergeant shot the officer dead and then killed himself. Their remains have since been evacuated to a military facility.”
