Today in World History (November, 9th)

On November 9, 1938, exactly 79 years ago today, German Jews were terrorized during “Kristallnacht” (Night of Broken Glass) in retaliation for the assassination of a German Diplomat by a Jewish refugee.

General Goebbels of Germany secretly ordered the destruction of Jewish properties.

Following the deadly Kristallnacht, the Nazis Germany blamed the Jews and fined them 1 billion marks (or $400 million in 1938 dollars) for vom Rath’s death.

However, the event eventually signaled the beginning of the Holocaust of the World War II in which over 6 million European Jews died many in Nazi concentration camp.
