Today in World History (October, 30th)

On October 30th, 1938, exactly 79 years ago today, Orson Welles scared the entire United States with his nationwide broadcast of “War of the Worlds”, a realistic radio dramatization of a Martian invasion of Earth.

According to available records, Orson Welles was only 23 years old when his Mercury Theater company decided to update H.G. Wells’ 19th-century science fiction novel War of the Worlds for national radio.

Welles, who was very young at the time did not know that the radio broadcast would cause a lot of panic across the nation. Secondly, the station station did not plan “War of the Worlds” to be a radio hoax.

However, there was massive panic as the broadcast hit the airwaves with people thinking that aliens have actually taking over the earth.
