Federal Government Set to Resolve University Crisis: Meets with ASUU Today


In a bid to resolve the face-off between the Federal Government and university teachers that has led to an industrial action, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, will today, Tuesday, August 29, meet with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Abuja..

In a statement from the Deputy Director (Press), Ministry of Labour and Employment, Samuel Olowookere, yesterday night, the Federal Government delegation at the meeting would include the ministers  of Education and  Finance, Chairman, National Income Salaries and Wages Commission, Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission and the President of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC).

The delegation was scheduled to meet with ASUU leadership to resolve the strike action embarked upon by ASUU which had paralyzed academic activities in public universities across the country.

It is expected that ASUU will present the union’s response to the delegation on offers made by the Federal Government during the last meeting held on August 17.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige, has called on ASUU to show good faith as the government has shown commitment to addressing their grievances and bringing the situation to normalcy.
