The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Malam Mahmood Yakubu, earlier today, Friday 16th June, issued certificate of registration to five newly registered political parties.
The new political parties are the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), New Generation Party of Nigeria (NGP), and All Democratic Peoples Movement (ADPM).
The coming on board of the five new entrants brings to 45 the number of political parties in Nigeria.
Briefing newsmen after the issuance of certificate to the new political parties, INEC Chairman, Malam Mahmood Yakubu disclosed that the commission is considering applications from other organizations who want to register as political parties assuring that their requests would be granted if the met all the requirements.
Malam Mahmood used the occasion to inform the new political parties that INEC would extend to them all the benefits currently being enjoyed by the other political parties. He said that the commission would equally monitor all the political parties and would not hesitate to sanction any of them found wanting.
