The Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike has debunked the claim purportedly coming from the Federal Government that Rivers State has been paid N34 billion from the Paris Club refund.
Speaking yesterday, Sunday 11th June, at the 8th Synod thanksgiving service at the St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Rumueme Deanery, Gov. Wike asked that the Federal Government show evidence that it paid the state N34 billion. He said that although the money in question that was used to settle Paris Club loan by the Federal Government belongs to the state, that the Federal Government is currently making underpayment to the state.
He therefore urged the Federal Government to stop shortchanging Rivers and some other PDP states but make full payment of the money it owes them. With full payment, the Governor assures, he would embark on even more life-changing projects in the state.
Gov. Wike listed massive road construction as some of the projects he would immediately embark upon once the figures allegedly being bandied by the Federal Government are made available to the state.
