Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan representing Yobe South Senatorial district in the Nigerian upper legislative chamber has restated that he was neither stoned nor booed by his constituents.
The Senate leader made the clarification yesterday, June 5th, during a hearing by the Senate Commitee on Ethics and Privileges. He claimed that on the said day of the alleged attack by members of his constituents, he was not home to his constituency but had traveled with Senator Sani Yerima, Ali Wakili and a few others to Daura, Katsina State for a wedding. He therefore described the news making rounds that he was assaulted by members of his constituency on the said day as fake, false, frivolous and intended to undermine his person and political career.
Responding on the call by the Senate leader for the media houses that generated the fake news to be sanctioned, the Chairman Ethics and Privileges Committee, Senator Sam Anyanwu said that although the media houses were invited, they failed to turn up for the hearing. Sen. Anyanwu maintained that the Senate would excercise patience and give ample time for the respondents to appear before it and make clarification for amicable resolution of the matter.
