FG Worried Over Spate of Fake News

The APC led government’s spokesman and minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has expressed worry over the spate of fake news in the country. Alhaji Mohammed who spoke on the two year anniversary of the Muhammadu Buhari led APC government, during a media interactive program over the weekend said that fake news are capable of causing ethnic tension thereby jeopardizing the security of lives and property of innocent people in the society.

He cited the fake news that made round late last week of bomb blasts in Abuja and Lagos as cases in point. He said that the fake news which were spread by mischief makers cause a lot of tension as people panicked over their safety.

Alhaji Mohammed therefore appealed on Nigerians not to panic in the face of any frivolous and unsubstantiated news in circulation. He urged the people to always confirm any such information that is capable of causing anxiety from the Ministry of Information and Culture or other relevant authorities before taking hasty action that may cause a breach of the peace.
