The Executive governor of Osun Stat, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola has called for the restructuring and decentralization of the Nigerian Police in order to ensure effectiveness and maximum efficiency.
Governor Aregbesola said that the current structure of the Police where it is controlled from the center slows down the process of law enforcement auguring that with restructuring the force for states to have central control over policing within its jurisdiction, the issue of security would be brought closer to the people at the grassroots. He said that restructuring would boost the moral incentive of law enforcement officers to carry out their duty diligently.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) SouthwestZone, Foluso Adebanjo, has praised Governor Aregbesola for the ample support it has been giving law enforcement agencies, especially the police, to carry out their security operations smoothly in the state. DIG Adebanjo said that Kwara state has remained one of the states with the lowest crime rates in the country, a claim being refuted by public analysts.
