Law Enforcement Agencies must stay – Ayuba Wabba

The President Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Philibus Wabba, on Thursday condemned the bill to exempt the armed forces from the contributory pensions scheme stressing that it would lead to the collapse of the scheme.

Comrade Wabba who spoke when he led some NLC executives on a visit to the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) headquarters equally called on the Federal Government to grant Local Government Councils autonomy. He said that local governments should be independent and maintain separate account from the state and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be conducting local governemtn elections instead of the states to ensure Independence and transparency.

On pension of which local government employees constitute a significant portion, the Comrade maintains there should not be discrimination among the labor force. However, it is on record that the total Pension Fund Assets had grown to N5.2 trillion ($26.4 billion) and total membership count of 6.8 million as at December 2015.
