ISIS has claimed responsibility for an attack earlier today at a casino in the Philippines capital, Manila, that left more than 37 people dead. However, the Filipino Police have refuted the claims stressing that from available evidence, the attack was not terror related.
According to press reports, a lone gunman had entered the Resorts World Manila early Friday morning, firing shots from an assault rifle and setting fire to gambling tables. Both staff and guests of the casino are among these that died following the attack.
The deaths recorded were as a result of suffocation. Many others sustained injuries jumping out of the building through the window.
The Philippines presidential spokesman and the nation’s police chief have both denied any terrorist link to the attack although the gunman reportedly died after setting himself on fire alluding to a possible suicide operation.
