The Nigerian Customs Service on Tuesday intercepted a 20-foot container with 440 guns of various sizes and designs concealed inside.
Disclosing this to newsmen in Lagos,
The Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Monday Abueh, while making the disclosure to newsmen said the cargo was shipped from Turkey and that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the recovery while efforts are being made to unravel the importers of the said arms.
This is following after the foot of the interception of 600 arms on the Apapa-Oshodi expressway three months ago.
ACG Abueh in his own words gives account of the recovery thus – “On opening the container, we discovered that they used POP powder to conceal the importation but based on intelligence report, we were able to know that the container was laden with arms. The particulars of the consignee are still being kept under wraps for security reason.”
On his part, the spokesman of the Customs command, Mr Uche Ejieseme informed that the owners of the consignment would be unraveled after which it will be handed over to the appropriate authorities.
