It has been reported that not fewer than 137 pro-Biafra agitators have been arrested on Monday across three states in the South East and South South regions of Nigeria. The states are Enugu, Ebonyi, and Cross River states.
The arrests occurred following a rally organized by members of the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) in those states to mark the Biafra Remembrance Day.
Abrakedown of the figures shows that 40 were arrested in Enugu, 50 in Ebonyi, and 46 in Cross River State.
The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo confirmed the report stating that the 46 agitators were arrested for questioning at Odukpani Junction in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state by a combined team of the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Service DSS, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps.
If was reliably gathered that one of the leaders of MOSSOB in Cross River State is among those arrested at odukpani.
In Ebonyi State, the pro-Biafrans were arrested at different locations including the Ohaukwu axix as well as in Onueke town on their way to Abakiliki the state capital.
On the arrests in Enugu, the police public relations officer, Ebere Amaraizu said the command has started investigations on the matter.
On his part, the leader of MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, described the arrest as unwarranted. He demanded the immediate release of all those detained.
