Cultist killed, arms recovered in Rivers

In the early hours of Tuesday, troops of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, shot dead a notorious cultist during a gun battle with a notorious cult group know as Dey Bam  in Sime community, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

This was made public in a statement by Colonel Aminu Iliyasu, the division’s deputy director of Army Public Relations in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. He informed that the deceased cult kingpin known as Mr Supreme was allegedly involved in extra judicial killings and had been on the police wanted list of the Rivers Police Command for a long time. According to the statement, one suspected cultist was arrested while several others escaped with gunshot wounds sustained during the operations.

According to Colonel Iliyasu, a pistol with registration number 299MME225 and ten rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered during the raid.

He warned cultists and other criminal elements to desist from their nonferrous acts and embrace the amnesty program currently offered by the Rivers State government explaining that the raid was part of the army’s clampdown on persons and groups involved in criminality in the state and its environs and that the division has already deployed troops to strategic locations to safeguard lives and properties of residents of the state.
